Zone Cooling; How Do Ductless Mini Split Air Conditioners Work to Deliver Cool Air to Rooms of Your Smarr, GA House?

Many homeowners are looking for better cooling options for their homes. Cooling systems are an investment at the outset and come with significant operating costs too. The cooling cost of the entire home may seem wasteful especially when certain areas of the home are never used. Then there are homes that are so old they did not have a proper cooling system installed or have none at all. When seeking answers, often many people will come across ductless mini split air conditioners. Those new to ductless air conditioners often have a ton of questions. GA HVAC Experts will attempt to answer them here.

What is a Ductless Mini Split Air Conditioner?

A ductless air conditioning system is a combination heating and cooling system that controls the temperature inside the home without the need for air ducts. A ductless mini split air conditioner is made up of three main parts:
– A condenser unit located outside your home
– An evaporator/blower unit located in the room where you need cooling
– A conduit that links the outdoor and indoor unit (the conduit houses the power cable, refrigerant tubing, suction tubing and condensate drain)
Ductless mini splits also come with a remote control so they are convenient to use.

How Do Ductless Air Conditioners Work?

Many people wonder how ductless air conditioning systems work, essentially since they don’t work like other HVAC systems. During the summer, the evaporator/blower unit takes in the warm air and passes it through the evaporator coil which is filled with refrigerant to create the cool air. During the winter, this process is reversed. The outdoor condenser unit will take in the outdoor air and send it through the refrigerant line to the evaporator/blower unit. It then blows heated air inside the home. However, it is the transformation of heat that makes the ductless air conditioning system work.

Installation of Ductless Mini Split Air Conditioning Systems

Ductless air conditioning can be installed inside a home faster than a ducted HVAC system. When installing a ductless air conditioning system, a small hole is drilled out to the indoor and outdoor unit that can connect to each other. The inside unit is mounted on the wall, usually near the ceiling. Once the indoor unit is mounted, next the outdoor unit is installed. A conduit and condensate drain connects to both units which provides the needed power, refrigerant supply, and drainage used to operate the ductless air conditioner.

What is Zone Heating & Cooling?

A ductless air conditioning system provides “zone” heating and cooling. One of the major differences between the traditional ductwork HVAC system and a ductless air conditioning system is that the ductless air conditioner does zone heating or cooling. Zone heating and cooling means you will only control the temperature of one area or zone at a time. Instead of wasting money cooling the entire home, you can cool or heat the used sections of the home. As a result, a ductless air conditioner system will need to be installed in every room of the home. A benefit of zone heating and cooling allows the individual to control the temperatures in their own space. For example, parents often like their bedroom cooler than young children. The elderly are often colder than others. Therefore, they tend to like their area warmer than the rest of the household.
